Lemont, IL – State Representative Nicole La Ha is highlighting several bipartisan measures that successfully passed the Illinois General Assembly this spring and are now awaiting the Governor’s signature.
“I am disappointed that many important issues were left on the table by the majority party,” Rep. La Ha said. “Property tax relief, affordability, and meaningful support for working families should have been priorities. House Republicans brought forward numerous proposals to address these challenges, but they were not prioritized by Illinois Democrats. That should concern everyone who wants to see Illinois become a more affordable place to live.”
Despite those frustrations, Rep. La Ha pointed to several constituent-driven initiatives that earned unanimous support in both the House and Senate. Among the measures she sponsored passed this spring:
HB 5580 improves communication between law enforcement agencies and prosecutors when DNA evidence generates a match, helping ensure critical investigative information reaches the appropriate authorities quickly and efficiently.
HB 4654 requires human trafficking resource information to be posted in public restrooms at Illinois roadside rest areas, creating additional opportunities for victims to access help and support.
HB 4659 provides important protections for survivors of domestic abuse, human trafficking, and exploitation who were forced into debt through coercion, helping prevent victims from being further harmed by circumstances beyond their control.
SB 3016 promotes greater accessibility in parks, playgrounds, trails, and recreational spaces by encouraging universal design principles within the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program.
“A lot of work remains to be done in Illinois, but we should also recognize the progress that was made,” Rep. La Ha said. “I remain focused on advancing practical, bipartisan solutions that improve the lives of the people I represent. It has been an honor to help create and carry these measures through the legislative process, and I look forward to continuing that work for the residents of the 82nd District.”
