La Ha and Village of Willow Springs host free Christmas Light Recycling Drive

State Representative Nicole La Ha announces her free Christmas Light Recycling Drive with drop-off locations at La Ha’s Lemont District Office (12271 Walker Road, Lemont) and at the Village of Willow Springs (1 Village Circle, Willow Springs). All holiday string lighting and extension cords can be dropped off beginning January 5 until Monday, January 26.

“This event is another opportunity for residents to dispose of unwanted items from their homes in an easy and environmentally friendly way,” said Rep. La Ha. “We are pleased to help our community responsibly recycle and keep these items out of landfills.”

Area residents are invited to bring in their broken string lights to recycle responsibly.  Garland, live greens, wreaths, or other non-recyclables are not accepted in this program. Those recycling lights are asked to separate broken string lights from other decor, to not include plastic bags or cardboard packaging, and deliver lights to a designated drop-off location during regular business hours. The strands are separated and baled to be sent to be chopped or shredded and sold as a commodity to foundries and mills in the United States.
