Rep. La Ha and Sen. Curran to Host Free Fishing Derby in Orland Park

Orland Park, IL…State Representative Nicole La Ha and State Senator John Curran are inviting families to enjoy a fun-filled morning at their annual Fishing Derby, held on Saturday, June 7th from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Tampier Lake West (131st and Will Cook Road in Orland Park).

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for kids and families to experience the joy of fishing” said Rep. Nicole La Ha. “We encourage everyone to come out, have fun, and make great memories as a family.”

This free event welcomes children 12 and under to cast their lines and compete for exciting prizes, including awards for biggest fish, most fish caught, and the Sportsman Award. The first 200 children to arrive will receive a free T-shirt.

The festivities kick off at 9:00 AM with a water safety presentation by the Illinois Conservation Police, ensuring participants understand best practices while enjoying their time fishing. Fishing officially begins at 9:30 AM, followed by an award ceremony at 11:30 AM where winners will be announced.

“Fishing is a great way to bring people together and appreciate the natural beauty of the outdoors,” Sen. Curran said. “We look forward to seeing families and young anglers join in on the fun.”

There will also be 50 free rods/reels donated by Wildlife Forever, first come first served. Along with the Illinois Conservation Police, the Illinois Dept. of Resources & Chicago Herpetological Society will also be on hand to educate all the young anglers.
