As we embrace 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together in 2024. This past year has been about standing up for our families, ensuring justice for the vulnerable among us, and making our communities stronger. Every step we’ve taken is thanks to the people of the 82nd District, whose passion and dedication inspire me daily.
Here’s a look back at what we accomplished this year!
This year, we took bold steps to protect the most vulnerable among us. I’m especially proud of my bill, HB 5467, which removes the statute of limitations for human trafficking crimes against minors. For too long, survivors were forced to navigate arbitrary time limits that ignored the lifelong impact of their trauma. With this bill, we’re sending a clear message: justice doesn’t expire, and neither does our commitment to protecting children.
The other bills I introduced regarding human trafficking this year were:
HB 5134: Seeks to amend the Sex Offender Registration Act to include offenses such as trafficking in persons, involuntary servitude, and involuntary sexual servitude of a minor, thereby enhancing monitoring and protection measures.
HB 5466: Aims to remove the affirmative defense for individuals accused of patronizing a minor engaged in prostitution, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and vulnerable minors are safeguarded.
In partnership with my colleagues, we also introduced the Protect Victims of Human Trafficking Legislative Package, which tackles systemic failures in how Illinois addresses human trafficking. Together, we worked to strengthen protections for survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and close legal loopholes that allowed exploitation to continue. This fight is far from over, but I’m committed to seeing a safer Illinois for all.
This year, I fought hard to provide relief for hardworking families across our district. Illinois has one of the highest property tax burdens in the nation, and it’s crushing homeowners and retirees alike.
I believe that by reducing taxes on essentials such as diapers, food, medications, and energy, we can help alleviate some of the financial burdens on families. I will continue to fight for policies that make it more affordable to live and thrive in Illinois.
One piece of legislation is HR 24, which fights against taxing retirement income, making it easier for retirees to stay in Illinois. Additionally, I’ve co-sponsored HB 4307 and HB 2336, which would reduce taxes on diapers, baby wipes, as well as certain foods and medications, providing much-needed relief for families.
I also voted to extend energy relief programs for low-income residents through HB 4471, preventing spikes in energy bills that could adversely affect vulnerable populations.
I have also supported healthcare cost reduction efforts by backing the Health Care Protection Act, HB 5395, working to address consumer concerns in the healthcare sector. Additionally, I fought for lowering daycare center costs by supporting lower taxes for their facilities through HB 4229.
I am committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of our state’s seniors. This year, I’ve supported legislation that is crucial to ensure seniors are protected, supported, and empowered in our communities. I’m honored for the opportunity to represent their needs.
HB4447 seeks to protect consumers from being targeted by unethical practices. This bill prohibits the solicitation of extended warranties through the mail and strengthens regulations that safeguard personal information.
HB5425 would provide financial relief to seniors who are facing high property tax burdens in their retirement years.
HB4431 looks to end an ageist requirement for seniors over 75 by eliminating the mandatory retaking of a road test for a driver’s license renewal.
HB4990 protects seniors by strengthening regulations against aggressive and deceptive spam calling practices.
HB4244 would raise the maximum income of the Low-Income Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption from $65,000 to $80,000.
SB 3476, which exempts programs like Meals on Wheels from sales taxes, ensuring home-delivered meals remain affordable for seniors and individuals in need. Programs like this are lifelines for so many, and I’m proud to protect them!
We hosted a Senior Fair, Job Fair, and Fishing Derby, among other events, to provide resources and bring neighbors together. I was also grateful to host a Youth Advisory Council where I was able to listen to local high school students share their ideas and concerns. Their insights are a powerful reminder of why we do this work
My office also participated/hosted man drives and programs, including our Mother’s Day Diaper Drive, Holiday Gift Drive, and our Summer Reading Program. These efforts reflect the heart of our district; neighbors helping neighbors!
We also celebrated local heroes by filing resolutions to honor football legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael and the Hinsdale Little League Baseball Team for their remarkable achievements. These moments of joy and recognition remind us of the strength and spirit of our community!

Recognitions
This year, I was humbled to be named a 2024 Edgar Fellow, joining a group of leaders from across Illinois to collaborate on tackling the state’s most pressing challenges. I also received the National Foundation for Women Legislators’ Elected Women of Excellence Award, which I share with all of you, because these achievements reflect the work we’ve done together!
Looking Ahead
As we move into 2025, I want you to know that my commitment to you remains steadfast. Whether it’s advocating for lower taxes, supporting inclusive education, or fighting for justice, I will continue to be your voice in Springfield.
Thank you for trusting me to represent you. I’m excited about the journey ahead and all we’ll accomplish together in 2025!
