Rep. La Ha Responds to Supreme Court Redistricting Ruling

Lemont IL…State Representative Nicole La Ha issued the following statement after this week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on redistricting:

“This week’s Supreme Court decision sends a clear message: fairness in our elections matters, and the Constitution still sets the boundaries for how maps are drawn.

“What we’re seeing in Illinois right now raises serious concerns. The proposed constitutional amendment moving through Springfield prioritizes the very kind of mapmaking the Court just rejected. That should give every lawmaker pause.

“This goes deeper than politics. Voters deserve confidence that elections are fair, transparent, and not tilted before a single ballot is cast. When lines are drawn to serve political outcomes instead of people, trust erodes. Once that trust is gone, it’s hard to rebuild.

“I believe Illinois should take this moment seriously. We have an opportunity to step back, reconsider the direction we’re heading, and choose a process that respects both the law and the people we represent.

“Our responsibility is simple: protect the integrity of our elections and ensure every voice carries equal weight. That’s what this decision reinforces, and that’s what we should be fighting for here at home.”

Following the ruling, Illinois Senate President Don Harmon indicated the Illinois Senate would pause action on the proposed redistricting constitutional amendment, stating lawmakers need time to review the Court’s decision and determine a path forward.

Rep. La Ha said that pause is warranted and urged lawmakers to use this moment to take a closer look at the proposal and ensure any changes to Illinois’ redistricting process align with constitutional standards and restore public confidence.

Rep. La Ha proudly serves the people of the 82nd District.
