Representative La Ha’s Latest: What Do These New Laws Mean for Students, Families, and People with Disabilities?

I’m proud to share that three bipartisan bills I sponsored were signed into law this summer, each one focused on supporting Illinoisans where it matters most.

HB2537 ensures families of students with disabilities receive clear guidance about graduation and continued services. By age 16, IEP teams must begin planning for what comes next, so no family is left scrambling when eligibility ends.

HB3377 brings transparency to how schools support homeless youth. Districts must now report how funds are spent and how many students are served, helping us identify gaps and strengthen support.

HB3677, the Complex Rehab Technology Act, removes repair delays for electric wheelchairs and other complex mobility equipment. Families and caregivers can now have independence restored more quickly without waiting on red tape.

These laws reflect our shared values: compassion, accountability, and common-sense solutions. I’ll keep fighting for policies that make life better for our community.

For years, I’ve fought to end human trafficking in Illinois. Today, we took another big step forward. With the signing of Senate Bill 2323, the Illinois Statewide Trauma-Informed Response to Human Trafficking Act, our state is taking a bold, coordinated step forward to protect survivors and hold traffickers accountable. I’m a proud co-sponsor of this bill.

Thank you to Silver Cross Hospital for the wonderful lunch meeting and tour!

I truly enjoyed learning about all the incredible work Silver Cross is doing for our community here in District 82 and the surrounding areas. Your dedication to providing high-quality care makes a real difference in the lives of so many.

I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure that our region has the healthcare access our residents deserve.

Thank you for all you do!

With school back in session, nearly half a million Illinois students are riding the bus each day.

The biggest risk isn’t the ride itself, it’s when kids are getting on or off. Please slow down, watch for flashing lights, and stop when the stop arm is out. A few extra seconds on your commute can save a child’s life.
