What Does Prescription Drug Affordability Mean for You?

Earlier this month, the Prescription Drug Affordability Act was signed into law. I’m proud to be a cosponsor of this important legislation.

As a mom, a neighbor, and your State Representative, I’ve heard from too many families who are stretched thin…seniors choosing between groceries and prescriptions, parents worried about how to afford the medicine their kids need, and small-town pharmacists barely staying afloat. This new law is an important step toward changing that.

Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) have operated behind the scenes for years, driving up costs while limiting choice. This law brings real accountability and real support.

It will:

-Stop PBMs from steering patients to their own affiliated pharmacies

-End the practice of “spread pricing” that hurts local pharmacies

-Require all manufacturer rebates to go back to insurance plans instead of middlemen

-Shine a light on PBM pricing practices through transparency

-Provide up to $25 million a year in grants to support independent, rural, and underserved pharmacies

This law helps to make sure that families can afford the care they need and that trusted local pharmacies can continue serving their communities. I will continue to support our families and seniors every way I can.

Coming to Your Neighborhood!

We’re excited to have our amazing interns out walking in the community; listening to neighbors, gathering feedback, and spreading the word about the many ways our office can help! So far, they’ve been out in Willowbrook, Burr Ridge, and Darien.

Haven’t seen them yet? Don’t worry! They’ll hopefully be at your door soon somewhere in District 82!

Grants Given to Local Libraries

Thanks to the Secretary of State’s Public Library Per Capita Grants, three libraries in our district will receive funding to help expand access to books, resources, and services. These grants support libraries in meeting statewide standards so they can better serve people of all ages and backgrounds.

Jane Walker of Hinsdale was recently featured in The Hinsdalean for her artistic generosity and lifelong creative spirit. A member of Union Church of Hinsdale, Jane donated one of her original paintings, an abstract piece featuring a subtle cross, to fill a long-empty wall in the church’s gathering space. A trained artist with a certificate from the Art Institute of Chicago and a bachelor’s in painting and art history, Jane continues to inspire others through her work in acrylics, her volunteer contributions, and her vibrant garden.
