Lemont, IL…State Representative Nicole La Ha issued the following statement upon passage of the FY26 state budget by the Illinois House of Representatives on Saturday:
“Tonight, Illinois families were handed a budget that raises taxes, increases spending, and ignores the voices of hardworking citizens. Not only that, but no property tax relief, or ANY tax relief for that matter, was included.
In fact, Democrats pushed through a plan that forces $1 billion in NEW taxes.
It’s a betrayal. Caregivers for disabled individuals get a pay raise, but fewer hours of care. Families who rely on these services will now struggle even more.
This budget is reckless, and that’s why I couldn’t support it:
-Spending skyrockets to $55.2 billion, nearly $2 billion more than last year.
-Special power to the governor, letting him make spending decisions without accountability.
-Republicans shut out of negotiations, leaving taxpayers without a voice at the table.
I fought for a fair, balanced budget that didn’t put taxpayers in a chokehold. Democrats ignored us, raised taxes anyway, and left working families to foot the bill.
Illinois deserves leaders who fight for them, not ones who sell them out. I won’t stop fighting for what’s fair for the people I represent. And let me make it clear: this budget was NOT that.”
Rep. Nicole La Ha proudly serves the people of the 82nd District.
