Lemont, IL…October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and State Representative Nicole La Ha stands united with victims and organizations dedicated to ending the cycle of abuse. Recent research from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority highlights troubling trends in domestic violence victimization. In Illinois, nearly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence.
“The work of domestic violence advocates and organizations is essential in protecting victims and giving them the resources they need to rebuild their lives,” Rep. La Ha said. “Domestic violence is a crisis that impacts every community, and we must continue to raise awareness and provide support for those affected.”
Many resources are available for victims, including the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline (1-877-863-6338) is available 24/7 to connect survivors with crisis intervention services, legal advocacy, and safety planning. The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Domestic Violence Program also provides vital resources, including emergency shelter, counseling, and legal support to help survivors escape and recover from abusive situations. These services, along with local organizations like The Crisis Center for South Suburbia, are committed to ensuring that survivors don’t just escape violence but find the support they need to thrive.
For those seeking immediate assistance, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia’s hotline is available 24/7 at 708-429-7233, and the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 1-877-863-6338. DuPage County resources can be located here: DuPage County Resources for Victims of Domestic Violence (dupagecourts.gov). Also, the National Domestic Violence Hotline has resources and information available at www.thehotline.org.
“We must work together to raise awareness and ensure that survivors know they are not alone, and that help is available,” Rep. La Ha said. “It’s crucial that we provide a network of support and resources to those who need it.”
Rep. Nicole La Ha proudly serves the people of the 82nd District.
