Autism Awareness Month was founded in April 1970 by Bernard Rimland, Ph. D., a psychologist and autism researcher. He chose the month of April to coincide with his son’s birthday, as well as the start of spring—a time for new beginnings.
Let this be a time that we remember to celebrate the differences among us. Autism is a spectrum, and within it, we find a beautiful array of talents, perspectives, and strengths. We should all take a bit of time to learn more about Autism so we can foster empathy, understanding, and compassion in our communities.
